Henry Stehli Bonner, 91, of Boothbay Harbor, died peacefully Dec. 7, 2014.

Known as Henry to all, and Pops to some, he was born in New York City in 1923. He attended high school at Phillips Exeter Academy and attended Harvard University.

After college, Henry entered the American Field Service to serve in North Africa during World War II. At the time of his passing, he was the second to last surviving A.F.S. member of his unit. Henry had a commended career with the U.S. State Department and then went on to a long and interesting career in the private sector for many years.

Henry retired in 2006 from his beloved southern Maryland and moved to Boothbay Harbor, where he became a renowned area artist and sculptor. His work was shown at the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library and at Bath Savings Bank branch in Boothbay Harbor.

He served as a member of the board of the Boothbay Region Art Foundation and was honored to be a member of the jury of the WCSH6 Annual Sidewalk Art Festival. He was a great supporter of regional charities and organizations and a member of the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor.

Henry is survived by his three daughters, Darby, Jennifer and Tabitha, along with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Henry’s life will be held at the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor, 125 Townsend Avenue, Monday, Dec. 15 at 3 p.m. He will be laid to rest at St. Matthews Church in Bedford Village, New York.
