Howard Singer, 90, of Houston, Texas and a longtime summer resident of Spruce Point, Boothbay Harbor, Maine, died Sept. 10, 2016.

He was born May 15, 1926 in Larchmont, New York.

A Navy man during World War II, he was pre-flight at North Carolina University until the war ended, and he completed his college years at Duke and Yale, where he played football and earned his degree in engineering before settling in Houston.

In Houston, he enjoyed a career in building and commercial real estate, developed affordable homes for returning WWII veterans, and built Medical Towers, once the tallest building in the medical center, as well as numerous subdivisions that beautified the city.

An avid sailor and world traveler, upon retirement he split his time each year between Houston and Boothbay Harbor, where he cultivated many lifelong friendships and pranked his grandkids every chance he got.

For his children and grandchildren, he was a standard-bearer of integrity, generosity, high ideals and humor in the face of all odds, as well as a devoted husband and dear loyal friend.

He was predeceased by his father and mother, Seel Singer and Rae Lustbader Singer, and his brother, Arnold Morton Singer.

He is survived by his daughters and their husbands, Lorrie and Bradley Kopp, Robin and Dale Mowrer, and Patti Singer; his grandchildren and their spouses, Briana (Dan), Adam, Eddie (Emily), Lilli (Jesse), Alex and Kyle; great-grandchildren, Oliver and Hiro; and nieces and nephew, Lisa, Susan, Jacqueline and Reagan, and their families.

Funeral services were held Sept. 13 in Austin, Texas. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation, Disabled American Veterans, and Paws for Purple Hearts.
