James T. Trefrey Jr.

Lt. Col. James Theodore Trefrey Jr. (Ret.), 79, of Bradenton, Fla. died Sept. 15, 2014.

He is survived by his wife, Helen “Hobbie” Hobson Trefrey.

Born May 20, 1935, in Bronxville, New York, he was a son of the late James Theodore Trefrey Sr. and Irma Seeber Trefrey. He was also predeceased by his step-mother, Helen I. Trefrey; and a son, Christopher Trefrey.

Mr. Trefrey lived in Bradenton, Florida and seasonally resided in Boothbay Harbor. He was a graduate of Norwich University and a 28-year retired veteran of the United States Army, having served in Vietnam.

After 1969, his primary occupation was a salesman in the pest control industry. He was a member of the Phoenix Masonic Lodge, in Sarasota, Bayview Lodge in East Boothbay, and the Shriners, Sahib Temple in Sarasota, where he served as a clown. He was a member of Kirkwood Presbyterian Church, in Bradenton, and First UMC, in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. He was involved in numerous organizations; however, his stellar woodworking craftsmanship was benefited by many.

Survivors also include a son, Charles (Katherine) Trefrey; his daughter, Deborah (James) Craft, both of Bradenton; grandchildren, Ronald Trefrey, Alexis (Jason) Bristol, Jenna (Christopher) First, Cassandra Craft and Jace Craft; great-grandchildren, Avery, Ella, Jet and Amelia.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 18 at Kirkwood Presbyterian Church in Bradenton, Florida. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Shriners Children Hospital in Tampa.
