Jefferson Historical Society's annual open house and exhibit day

Wed, 07/30/2014 - 1:00pm

The lakes and ponds of Jefferson will be the focus of the Jefferson Historical Society's annual open house and exhibit day, Saturday, Aug. 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Old Jefferson Town House, 7 Gardiner Road.

Many photos showing early businesses, cottages, fishing lodges, boys and girls camps, and lake-related activities will be featured along with items such as tickets and a life preserver used on the River Belle, a steamboat which carried freight and passengers regularly between Damariscotta Mills, the train station in Nobleboro and the Bridge area in Jefferson.

Visitors will be able to see the restoration progress on the top floor of the Old Town House and view other local history-related exhibits on all three floors of the 1869-built strucure. A free ice cream social will be offered by the JHS.

Weather permitting, lunches will be available from Sully's Hotdog and Brots Wagon. For more information, call 207-549-5258.
