Jeffery P. Hodgdon

Tue, 05/15/2018 - 10:45am

Jeffery P. Hodgdon, 63, of Barters Island, Maine, died peacefully at his home on May 13, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.

Jeff grew up on Hodgdon Island, graduated with the Class of ’73 from Boothbay Region High School, and went on to attend Lincoln Electric School in Ohio. After graduation he joined pipe-fitting/welding union (U.S. Local 716) working there for 20-plus years. While working with the union he also pursued his true passion of being on the Sheepscot River, with his family lobstering, snailing, urchining, worming and spending time on the islands. Jeff also enjoyed family get-togethers, the annual trips to camp, dancing, singing and sitting at home with a good read. Some of his fondest memories were lobstering with his sister “Steph” and many laughs with his great friends, “Beaver” and Gale. Jeff’s greatest joy was spending as much time with his grandchildren. He was loving, caring, witty, and always looking at the brighter side of things.

Jeff was predeceased by his parents, Philip H. “Red” Hodgdon and T. Kathleen (McInnis) Hodgdon; brother, Eric Hodgdon; and brother-in-law, Frank Wiley.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Rose (Lewis) Hodgdon of Boothbay; daughter, Angelica Murray and her husband David; son, Christopher Hodgdon and his wife Krystle of Edgecomb; grandchildren, Keegan Murray, Miles Murray, Arabella Hodgdon and Benjamin Angus Hodgdon; sister, Stephanie Wiley of Boothbay; brother, Jon Hodgdon and his wife Deborah of Boothbay; sisters-in-law, Libby Hodgdon of Round Pond and Patricia A. McGlauflin and husband Jon of Edgecomb; brothers-in-law, Mark Lewis and wife Cindy of Boothbay and Glenn Lewis and wife Catherine of Readfield; along with several nieces and nephews and cousins.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Laprad and his staff for the continued support, and to Val Artzer for making Jeff ready for the next chapter.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Lung Association, 122 State Street, Augusta, ME 04339.

There will be a celebration of life at a date to be announced.
