John C. Laird

John C. “Jack” Laird, 79, died May 24, 2015 in the Gregory Wing of St. Andrews Village, Boothbay Harbor.

He was born Feb. 1, 1936 to John and Florence (Brown) Laird. He grew up in Saco and graduated from Thornton Academy. He attended Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute in South Portland.

Jack served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

He worked as an oceanographic marine tech at Woods Hole, Massachusetts, and for Bigelow Labs in Florida, Massachusetts and Maine for 28 years.

He was predeceased by his wife, Mary (Kearney) Laird.

His is survived by a daughter, Stacy McLellan and her husband Jeremy of Boothbay; granddaughters, Jordan Barter of Boothbay and Madeleine McLellan of Boothbay; and a sister, Rosemary Marston of Billerica, Massachusetts.

A graveside service to celebrate Jack’s life will be held Friday, May 29 at 4 p.m. at the Decker Cemetery on Southport Island. Please join the family after the graveside service at China By The Sea from 5 to 7 p.m. to continue the celebration of Jack’s life.
