Josephine F. Merritt

Josephine F. Merritt, 89, of Boothbay Harbor, died peacefully on the afternoon of June 18 at the Lincoln Home in Newcastle.

Born on April 12, 1925 in Boothbay Harbor, she was the daughter of Kenneth “Weston” and Gladys (Skillin) Farnham.

Josephine attended local schools, and grew up in Boothbay Harbor where her father operated a lobster wharf. Upon graduation, she traveled to Winter Park, Florida, where she attended Rollins College, earning her degree studying music.

She married renowned artist Norman Merritt and the couple made their home in Boothbay Harbor where they enjoyed the coast and each other.  

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband; as well as several aunts and uncles.

She is survived by many cousins and special friend and caretaker, Scott Campbell.

A graveside service for both Josephine and Norman will be held at the Ocean View Cemetery in Boothbay on a date and time to be announced. A service announcement will be published in next week’s edition, and details can be found on the funeral home's website.
