Judith H. Dawson

Judith H. Dawson, 73, of Hallowell and Ocean Point, died peacefully, Sept. 18, 2014 with her family by her side.

She was born Judith Henry, April 19, 1941 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the daughter of John and Gladys (Huntley) Henry. She attended schools in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Judy graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1963 where she met her husband, Peter Dawson. They were married in 1964. She taught school in New Jersey and Massachusetts before moving to Maine in 1966. She lived in Hallowell for 45 years and spent summers in Ocean Point.

Judy was predeceased by her husband, Peter, in 2012.

She is survived by her three children; son Jonathan and his wife, Kate and their three children, Jane, Al and Owen who all live in Pownal.  Her daughter, Sarah Carr lives in Yarmouth with her husband, Jon and their daughter, Isabel. Her daughter, Elizabeth Holland lives in Gorham with her husband, Paul and their children, Henry and Nara. Judy’s children and grandchildren gave her great joy and happiness. She is also survived by two brothers, Byron Henry and his wife, Hannelore and Guy Henry and his wife, Marilyn who live in Maryland. Her sister, Janice Henry and her husband, Blay Bohnson live in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She also leaves many friends in Hallowell and Ocean Point.

Judy was a Deacon at Old South Congregational Church, spent many years on the Board of Hubbard Free Library, was on the Board of Forum-A, worked with the Regional Gifted and Talented Program, served on the Hall-Dale school board, and worked with AFS in Hallowell and on the state level. She was a substitute teacher at Hall-Dale Middle School for many years, which she truly enjoyed.

Judy will be remembered for being kind, fair, loyal and fun. 

A memorial celebration of life will be held at the Old South Congregational Church, U.C.C. 135 Second Street in Hallowell on Sunday September 21, 2014 at 3 p.m.  All are welcome to visit with the family at the church from 1:30 p.m. until service time at 3 p.m.
