Kay Vratil Gilchrist of Wiscasset died November 15, 2015 due to complications from an auto accident.

Beloved wife of William Gilchrist, Kay was born in Great Bend, Kansas (1948) and raised in Larned, Kansas, where she delighted in a large extended family. She excelled in academics and was elected to Girls State, a government-in-action learning program designed to guide young women to become knowledgeable stewards of freedom, democracy and patriotic citizens.

She attended Kansas University. Kay was a deeply spiritual person and began each day in meditation and prayer. She was a faithful friend to many. Kay was her husband’s greatest cheerleader and he hers.

Kay is survived by a cherished brother, Steve Vratil and his wife Barbara Vratil of Fort Collins, Colo., as well as a niece and nephew, Lori Powell, Parker, Colo. and Troy Vratil, Olathe, Kansas; her husband’s two children, Gayle Bennett and her husband Eddy of Bainbridge, N.Y. and their children Seth, Tom and Abby, and Tami Lewis and her husband Duane of Forest, Va. and their children Sarah and Logan Bibeau; and three great-grandchildren. All brought joy to her heart.

While living in Wiscasset, Kay worked for Shaw's Supermarkets.

A memorial service will be held in the spring.
