Lincoln Academy jazz groups play at 2015 Champagne on the Sheepscot event

Wed, 07/08/2015 - 2:45pm

Lincoln Academy jazz musicians will entertain guests at this year's Champagne on the Sheepscot, the seventh such annual fundraising event organized by the Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association, a nonprofit local land trust. The event this year takes place at a private residence on Westport Island on Saturday, Sept., 12 from 4:30 to 7 p.m.

The student performers are members of Lincoln Academy's Four O'Clock Combo and Five O'Clock Combo, named for the time of day the students practice each Thursday under the guidance of Band Director Liz Matta. The jazz combo groups, known for their improvisational skills and their silky sounds, will provide a wonderful accompaniment to the event, located at a residence overlooking the Sheepscot River owned by Joan and William Sartoris and Joan's sister Lorraine Tregde.

Guests will enjoy hearty hors d'oeuvres, liquid refreshments, and just plain mingling. In addition, paintings by local artists will be for sale with a portion of the proceeds going to SVCA. There also will be a raffle of a painting donated by local artist Belva Ann Prycel.

Tickets are $45, or $125 to become a patron of the event. The money raised will support SVCA’s work to conserve and restore the natural and historic heritage of the Sheepscot River watershed through land protection, habitat restoration, advocacy, education and support for compatible land uses.
