Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office: Three deer/car accidents

Sheriff Todd Brackett reports the following:

On June 6, Theodore E. Poland, 49, of Nobleboro was issued a summons for Operating after Suspension, on Briggs Road, Damariscotta, by Transport Deputy William Owen.

On June 8, Clive J. Pickering, 42, of Auburn was issued a summons for Driving to Endanger, on Route 1, Newcastle, by Deputy Chase Bosse, who was assisted by Sgt. Aaron Beck.

On June 8, Alexander M. Shaw, 24, of Kingfield was issued a summons for Operating while License Suspended or Revoked, - prior, on Sawyer’s Island Road, Boothbay, by Deputy Kevin Dennison.

On June 11, Jesse D. Carmichael, 24, of Wiscasset was arrested for Domestic Violence Assault and Domestic Violence Criminal Threatening, on Main Road, Westport Island, by Deputy Caleb Poirier.

Accidents

On June 6, an accident occurred on Grand Army Road in Whitefield involving Nicole M. Ripley, 33, of Whitefield. Ms. Ripley was operating her 2008 Ford Taurus westbound when a deer ran out of a field and into the roadway from the north side and was struck. Deputy John Braley was the investigating officer.

On June 6, an accident occurred on East Pond Road in Nobleboro involving Donald Dougherty, 72, of Carbondale, Illinois and Mitchell L. Wellman, 51, of Nobleboro. Mr. Wellman had stopped his 2011 Subaru Legacy at the stop sign on East Pond Road, attempting to make a right turn onto Route 1. Mr. Dougherty was operating his 2010 Dodge Journey behind Wellman’s vehicle. Dougherty stated he was looking left and didn’t realize how close he was to Wellman’s vehicle and as a result, struck the rear. Sgt. Aaron Beck was the investigating officer.

On June 6, an accident occurred on Rockland Road in Jefferson involving Sheldon J. Lavway, 19, of Union. Mr. Lavway was operating his 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier eastbound when he became distracted with an electronic device in his vehicle. As a result, he crossed the center line, left the roadway on the left side and came to rest in a culvert. Deputy Chase Bosse was the investigating officer.

On June 6, an accident occurred on East Pond Road in Nobleboro involving Tricia A. Porter, 42, of Westborough, Massachusetts. Ms. Porter was operating her 2014 Nissan Murano southbound and when she approached the intersection of Sulos Road, a deer entered the roadway from the right side and struck her vehicle on the passenger side. Deputy Chase Bosse was the investigating officer.

On June 7, an accident occurred on Grand Army Road in Whitefield involving David Hodsdon, 83, of Jefferson. Mr. Hodsdon was operating his 2002 Jeep eastbound when a deer entered the roadway and was struck. Deputy Jonathan Colby was the investigating officer.

On June 7, an accident occurred on Sawyer's Island Road in Boothbay involving Alexander M. Shaw, 24, of Kingfield. Mr. Shaw was operating his 2006 Ford F-350 southbound when his vehicle crossed into the northbound lane, left the roadway and struck a rock wall.  Deputy Kevin Dennison was the investigating officer.

On June 10, an accident occurred on Main Street in Newcastle involving Julia Haltof, 25, of Cape Elizabeth and Anne M. Pinkham, 68, of South Bristol. Ms. Haltof was operating her 2009 Jeep Compass northbound and Ms. Pinkham was operating her 2010 Subaru Forester southbound, when Haltof attempted to turn off Main Street onto Mills Road and failed to yield to Pinkham’s vehicle.  As a result, both vehicles collided. Sgt. Mark Bridgham was the investigating officer.

On June 11, an accident occurred on Rockland Road in Whitefield involving Lewis E. Simmons, 70, of Phippsburg and Jeffrey C. Feyler, 31, of Windsor. Mr. Simmons was operating his 2007 Toyota Corolla westbound, approaching the intersection with Route 218 and Somerville Road. There were vehicles stopped in traffic to make a left hand turn onto Route 218, when Simmons pulled into the breakdown lane to pass these vehicles on the right.  Mr. Feyler was operating his 2011 Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on Route 17, towing a boat and did not see Simmons’ vehicle as he attempted to make a left hand turn onto Somerville Road.  As a result, Simmons struck the boat and trailer being towed by Feyler. Deputy Justin Drake was the investigating officer.
