The next monthly meeting of the Lincoln County Triad will be held on Thursday, May 19 at the 911 Communication Center in Wiscasset. Meetings start at 1 p.m. The guest speaker will be Edith Vaughan of the FISH transportation service. Triad meetings are open to the public, especially those who would like information on the program being featured that day.

LC FISH is a volunteer driving program for residents of Lincoln County. In November 2015 it began informally with help from the Boothbay Region FISH and LincolnHealth, Miles Campus. In February 2016, the vestry of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Newcastle took FISH on as a mission.

Rides are offered at no cost with the only limit on destination being the willingness of the drivers. FISH currently has close to 30 drivers. They provided 100 rides from November through February, 75 in March and 78 in April. Requests are steadily increasing. For more information and to book a ride leave a request on the FISH phone 350-9808. You will be contacted by a coordinator.

Drivers are subject to thorough background checks. They are covered by their insurance, but secondary coverage is offered through St. Andrews. New drivers are needed to enable FISH to serve the steadily increasing demand.

The Lincoln County Triad is a collaboration between senior service organizations, local law enforcement including the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and volunteers dedicated to helping senior citizens stay safe in their homes and communities. The national Triad organization was formed in 1988 by three groups: AARP, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, and the National Sheriff’s Association. The local Triad was formed in the late 1990s and has been doing educational projects ever since.

Residents who would like to help the Lincoln County Triad in their efforts are encouraged to attend the monthly meetings and get involved. You will learn something at every meeting.
