Margaret MacDonald

Margaret MacDonald of Boothbay died November 14, 2015 after a lengthy illness surrounded by her loving family.

Margaret was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of Frank and Martha Brown. She worked at The Montreal Children's Hospital and The Montreal General Hospital where she was in charge of the tumor registry.

She moved to Taunton, Massachusetts in 1969. She worked as a medical receptionist in Foxboro, Mass. and in medical records at Sturdy Hospital in Attleboro, Mass. She married her husband in 1977 and lived in Foxboro, Mass.

In 1995, she and her husband retired to Boothbay. She was very involved at the Southport United Methodist Church. She sang in the choir and worked on the woman's missionary committee. She was also a member of the garden club.

She was a lifelong dog lover. Her hobbies included cooking, reading, music, knitting, needlework, gardening and bird watching. She loved to go shopping with her daughter, granddaughter and great-granddaughter. She was a devoted fan of the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins.

She was predeceased by a younger sister, Edith Brown, who died at an early age.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 38 years, Dr. John B. MacDonald; her daughter, Lida Watters and her husband Bruce of Bennington, Vt.; her son, Alan Kopecky of Taunton, Mass.; her granddaughter, Jessica Kopecky and her fiancé Dantes Lanausse; and her great-granddaughter, Annalena Lanausse of Swansea, Mass.; and her cousins, Mrs. Joan Noonan of Vineland, Ontario, Canada and Stephanie Noonan of Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada. She is also survived by her husband’s children, Alexander, Laura, Margaret, Ian, George, Neil and Eric and many grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta and St. Andrews Village in Boothbay Harbor for their outstanding care for her.

A service to celebrate Margaret's life will be held 11 a.m. November 17 at the Southport United Methodist Church with Pastor Ami Sawtelle and Desmond Parker officiating. Burial will follow in the Sprucelawn Cemetery in Southport.
