Marie R. Callnan died peacefully at the Gregory Wing of St. Andrews Village in Boothbay Harbor on June 6, 2016.

She was born in Houlton, Maine in August of 1931.

Marie was the eldest of three children born to Racheal and Paul McNally. Marie met and ultimately married her childhood sweetheart, Joseph O. Callnan on January 23, 1948 in the Church of St. Mary’s in Houlton.

Marie and Joseph raised four children and lived successfully in Houlton, Calais, Portland and East Boothbay. They owned and operated the East Boothbay General Store as Callnan’s Market, which was featured in the New Yorker, while Joseph continued his career with the telephone company.

Marie then opened the Foxy Lady Boutique in Boothbay Harbor and ran it for 10 years. The shop combined her love of fashion and social interaction.

Marie was a generous soul who lent a helping hand to many friends over the years and always gave a warm welcome to her children’s extended networks, especially the Marines, whom her son, Richard, had served with. They knew they were safe there. It was home.

Marie and Joseph wintered in Florida, returning to Boothbay Harbor for the summers to be with their family and friends.

Survivors include the Browns, David, Marsha and Forrest; and the Branches, Margaret, Stephen and Stephanie.

Hall’s of Boothbay has care of the arrangements. To extend online condolences, light a candle for Marie, or to share a story or pictures, visit her Book of Memories at www.hallfuneralhomes.com

Marie lived her life by the following: Dance as though no one is watching you; Love as though you have never been hurt before; Sing as though no one can hear you; and Live as though heaven is on earth.
