Marilyn Lozier, 90, of Boothbay Harbor died peacefully at her home on July 20, 2014.

Born to Webster and LaVancha (Brewer) Barter, Marilyn lived most of her life in the region, graduating from Boothbay Harbor High School in 1941. She went on to Farmington Normal School for a year and during the war worked at Sample’s Shipyard in Boothbay Harbor. She later moved to Waltham, Mass., got her driver’s license, and worked in the Waltham Watch Factory for several years. In her spare time she enjoyed going to Boston Red Sox games.

Upon returning to the Boothbay region in 1954, she got a job working in the office at the Department of Marine Resources. There she met and married her husband of 53 years, Lewis John Lozier. They settled in Boothbay where they worked and raised one daughter. Lewis worked as a marine statistician and Marilyn went on to work at the Capital Island Post Office for a few summers, as well as the West Harbor Post Office.

For many years Marilyn was very active in the Boothbay Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school, coordinated crafts for Vacation Bible School and was a trustee. For 13 years, she volunteered to lead the Pioneer Girls program with her good friend, Irene Smith, the pastor’s wife.

She took many opportunities to explore the craft world and enjoyed working with her hands. She also enjoyed many years of exploring the Down East region with her husband, times during which they boated, fished, and just relaxed in “God’s country,” as she would often say. A favorite of hers was the Chesuncook area near Greenville.

In her later years she enjoyed visits from her family and friends. She always looked forward to drives in the country, and when at home, she read, worked on her puzzles, did some knitting, and loved watching her vintage television programs.

Marilyn was predeceased by her husband and her two brothers, Richard Barter and Clayton Barter.

She is survived by her daughter, Diane Reed of Boothbay Harbor, and two grandchildren, Andrew Reed of Portland and Rachel Reed and her fiancé Mark St. Vincent of Waterville, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Celebration of Life service will be held for Marilyn on Thursday, July 24 at 3 p.m. at the Boothbay Baptist Church, 999 Wiscasset Road, Boothbay, with Pastor Nash officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in Marilyn’s name to the Lincoln County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 7, 27 Atlantic Highway, Edgecomb, ME 04556.
