Medication collection April 25

Thu, 04/23/2015 - 4:15pm

Dear Editor:

I would like to draw attention to the fact that there will be a state wide Medication Collection this Saturday, April 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

We all have excess prescription medications in our homes. That is not a good place for them. Improperly disposed of, such as flushing, they are an environmental hazard. Elderly folks who are confused can accidentally take the wrong drugs. Small children can find them and take something toxic to them.

Local law enforcement agencies are concerned that known drugs in homes become a source of home theft. This becomes a law enforcement issue and the Sheriff’s Department and local Police Departments are solidly behind the effort to safely collect and dispose of the drugs.

The collection sites in Lincoln County are Lincoln County Health Care at Miles Memorial Hospital, Damariscotta, Lincoln County Communications Building, Wiscasset, Sproul Block, Waldoboro, the Town Office, Boothbay Harbor and Sheepscot Valley Health Care, Whitefield. Just walk in and leave them with those manning the sites. It would be helpful if any names are blacked out.

Most all forms of prescriptions and over the counter medications, including pet meds, will be accepted. IV Bags, used syringes and different forms of waste cannot be turned in at this event.

Again, the date is April 25 and the times are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
