Meeting will go over grants, adult-entertainment businesses

Damariscotta voters will have much and more to hear and discuss this week.

A special meeting to discuss, among other things, a moratorium on adult entertainment businesses, will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17. There will also be a regularly-scheduled selectmen’s meeting.

In addition to the proposed moratorium, there will also be a public hearing regarding an amendment to the shoreland zoning ordinance.

The selectmen will also be tasked with voting on a proposed changed to the Community Block Development Grant public infrastructure project, which has seen increased focus in the past week.

The project, which is centered around the Chapman, Church, Hodgdon and Pleasant Street improvements, could be eligible for up to $65,000 in additional infrastructure improvements. Recently, Hagar Enterprises has revamped and repaired the area, complete with new culverts and roads among other improvements with a focus on better drainage.

The added CBDG money would further help that drainage along Pleasant Street.

The adult entertainment moratorium would put a temporary ban on any adult-themed entertainment venue within the town. That ban would only last six months, but the time would be used to draft a permanent ordinance that would likely be presented to voters during the next town meeting in June.
