One of Wiscasset’s ambulances was traveling through Brunswick on a run to Boston Friday night when a metal object struck it in two places, Wiscasset EMS Director  Toby Martin said Monday.

The item came off a vehicle traveling in front of the ambulance, Martin said in a phone interview. It first struck one of the ambulance’s tires and then the driver’s side of the windshield; the tire was fine and scratches on the windshield were buffed out, Martin said. The ambulance was able to continue on the Boston run and is in full-service, he said. It needs no repairs, Martin said.

The incident was reported at 7:18 p.m. Friday, Patrol Commander Tom Garrepy of the Brunswick Police Department said Monday. It happened on Route One; the ambulance then pulled into the Cook’s Corner Mall, Garrepy said.

Martin said the vehicle the piece came off of did not stop. The ambulance crew gave Brunswick police the license plate number, he said.
