Music classes offered for home-schoolers

Fri, 09/08/2017 - 10:30am

Home-school students can attend music classes starting Sept. 20 at the Preston Music Studio in Damariscotta. Instructor Carol Preston, a former public school music teacher and professional musician, says the classes follow much of the public school curriculum, taught in a fun and creative way.

Preston, believes home-schooled children deserve excellent music training as part of a well-rounded education.

“I want to provide an option for home-school families to incorporate music in their curriculum,” Preston said. “This is a perfect alternative, and complement, to private lessons. Plus kids get to participate in a group learning experience.”

Weekly classes are held on Wednesday afternoons for two levels; ages 5-7 and 8-11.  Students learn to sing, move to music, read notation, and play classroom instruments (such as, rhythm sticks, maracas, bells, hand drums, recorders). These classes will be tailored to the students who are enrolled. Classes run through Dec. 13.
