New dryer vent service opens in Wiscasset

After receiving many requests to provide dryer vent service over the years, former Maine Coast Stove & Chimney owner Robert Conlin has heeded the call and launched a new service business for the Midcoast region.

The company is called SafeDry Service. Conlin recognized the need after researching statistics on the frequency of clothes dryer-related fires. The National Fire Protection Association estimates that there are an average of 15,600 residential fires in the U.S. annually attributed to clothes dryers.

While some are tied to electrical or gas malfunctions, a majority of those fires are attributed to lint buildup in the dryer and in the venting connecting the appliance to the outside. Some are related to faulty venting installations as well.

In addition to being a fire hazard, lint buildup can lead to inefficiency and excessively long drying cycles. That in turn can lead to a shortened lifespan for the appliance and to excessive energy consumption. Given that a clothes dryer ranks second to refrigerator for energy consumption in most residential homes, a simple vent cleaning can save homeowners significant energy costs.

SafeDry Service will provide residential service to homes, condo associations and other facilities using clothes dryers. Call Robert Conlin at (207) 350-5495 or email at safedryservice@gmail.com.
