New owners for Boothbay Harbor car wash/laundromat

Darick and Terri Herald of Walpole are the new owners of the Coastal Car Wash and Harbor's Choice Laundry in Boothbay Harbor. The couple took over on Sept. 15.

Darick, formerly a manufacturing supervisor for Rynel, Inc. in Wiscasset, said there won't be many changes to the two businesses, but they will be offering a few new services.

“We're keeping it pretty much the same,” he said. “But being the time of year it is, we will be heavily focused on undercoating for cars and trucks.”

Herald said they use a greasy fluid film spray to coat the undersides of vehicles that prevents corrosion from calcium chloride. Calcium chloride pellets are widely used on roads to melt ice in the winter.

The business will also be offering headlight restoration to clear up dull headlights.

The Heralds are giving away 15 percent off coupons and multi-car discounts for detailing, another service that is in high demand at this time of the year.

The car wash area, behind the laundromat, features two self-service bays and one automatic bay, as well as high-power vacuums outside.

In the clothing end of the business, the new owners are in the process of looking for a new dry-cleaning vendor.

“We want to have a faster turn-around so when we send items out they'll get back faster,” Darick Herald said.

Hours for the car wash are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The self-serve laundry will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday; Open at 8 a.m. on Sunday. The window for dry cleaning and laundry services is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
