Norma B. Giles

Norma B. Giles, 89, of Boothbay died peacefully at her home in Boothbay on Dec. 4, 2014, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born to Anton and Ida (Mcinnis) Bartik on Sept. 8, 1925 in Newport, Rhode Island, later moving to Stonington and Mystic, Connecticut, then on to Boothbay.

She was married for 63 years to the love of her life, the late Irving Giles.

She will be greatly missed by her devoted children, Dan Giles and his wife Phyllis, Mike Giles and his wife Susie, and Bev McFarland and her husband David; her grandchildren, Ryan, Shannon, Devon, Jennifer, Kristi, Trent, Bobbi-Jo, Angel and Sonya; 14 great-grandchildren; her sister, Helen Lewis; and several special nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her sisters Virginia Reed and Marion Lewis, and her cousins who were raised as sisters, Cecil and Hazel Davis.

Norma was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her hard family was her pride and joy. She was a hard worker, and worked side by side for many years with her husband in their various entrepreneurial ventures, including shipping worms, running the Dairy Freeze and most recently, Giles Rubbish Service. 

In their retirement the couple traveled and enjoyed camping in their motor home.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Norma’s name to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation National Processing Center Attn: Honor and Memorial Gifts, P.O. Box 1245, Albert Lea, MN 56007, or to the American Heart Association, 51 U.S. Route 1, Suite M Scarborough, ME 04074.

A gathering of friends and family was held on Sunday, Dec. 7 from 3 to 5 p.m. with an Eastern Star Service to be held at 4 p.m. at Hall Funeral Home of Boothbay 975 Wiscasset Road Boothbay. A celebration of life was held on Monday, Dec. 8 at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Al Roberts officiating.
