Peggy Konitzsky guest speaker at library Nov. 8

In recognition of Veterans Day, the Wiscasset Public Library will present a program by Peggy Konitzsky, site manager in Wiscasset for Historic New England, on Wednesday, Nov. 8 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. She will deliver her presentation, “Production Soldiers and Kitchen Commandos: The World War II Homefront” with focus on Wiscasset.

Konitzsky will talk about the war’s impact on our local communities and efforts made to support of the war. Many local men and women joined the armed services, leaving those left at home to deal with the requirements of the war effort, including the effect of blackouts, rationing and shortages on households and local businesses.

Following the presentation, there will be time for comments, sharing of remembrances and questions. All are welcome and a special invitation to our Veterans during this community’s acknowledgement of their service. This program is offered by the Friends of the Wiscasset Public Library.

Konitzsky education includes a degree in U. S. History from Georgetown University, an MBA from New York University and a Museum Studies certificate from Tufts University. She has just written a book on the WWII home front in Midcoast Maine that will be coming out this spring.
