In celebration of Veterans Day and the coming holidays and in recognition of this living memorial for all who have, are and will serve in the armed forces in defense of the country, Sue Hochstein of the Pemaquid Chapter DAR and Linda Redman, chairman of The Garden Club Federation of Maine Blue Star Committee placed a beautiful wreath and vowed to restore the area around the marker in the spring of 2020 as a project of the Pemaquid Chapter.

The Blue Star Marker program was initiated by National Garden Clubs Inc. in 1944 as a living memorial to all those who have served in the nation’s armed forces. Markers have been placed along major highways across the United States, which have become known as Blue Star Memorial Highways. The blue star symbol is drawn from the Blue Star Service banner displayed by families who have loved ones serving in the armed forces during a period of war.
