Boothbay Harbor Police arrested a Boothbay Harbor couple on drug charges on Nov. 13, as a result of a search of an Atlantic Avenue apartment.

Warner Hinckley, 43, was charged with trafficking of a scheduled drug (marijuana), a Class D crime and April Smeal, 40, was charged with possession of a Class W drug (heroin), a Class C crime. They were both taken to Two Bridges Jail and have been released on bail.

The arrests came as a result of a search warrant obtained by BHPD Officer Tom Chryplewicz. Chryplewicz’s search warrant request was supported by an affidavit by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Jared Mitkus, which detailed information that led police to Hinckley and Smeal.

The search warrant, on file at Lincoln County Courthouse in Wiscasset, also detailed the items found in the search, which included marijuana, suboxone, a small amount of heroin, psychedelic mushrooms, drug paraphernalia, scales and firearms. Police also seized the couple’s cell phones and were able to obtain a search warrant to gain access to cell phone data.

Hinckley does have a license to grow and possess marijuana but not to sell it, Chief Bob Hasch said. The Bangor Daily News reported that Smeal and Hinckley were arrested on similar charges related to illegal marijuana sale and cultivation in Bath in 2012.
