Police hold school supply drive

Fri, 08/25/2017 - 4:15pm

The Wiscasset Police Department held a school supply drive Friday, Aug. 25 for children attending Wiscasset schools.  The department received backpacks, book bags and school supplies, as well as cash donations which will be used to buy needed supplies in the coming days.

Due to a blood drive scheduled for that afternoon, the fire trucks were out of their bays and in the driveway, making it a little difficult for drivers to see the small sign and the group gathered to collect supplies. Officer James Fisher went to buy balloons and the town office and the fire department provided supplies so the balloons could be hung up on the sign and walls, and a box for supplies was decorated with a large red apple by Natalie Bonneau, the summer police intern. A police cruiser and an ambulance were parked on the grass in front of the site with lights flashing to gain the attention of passersby.

The supplies gathered and purchased will be given to Wiscasset children in need. Officer Paul Rubashkin said donations could still be placed in a box at the entrance to the police station this weekend.
