The Wiscasset Community Center was once again home to the Raven’s Egg Hunt on Friday, Oct. 27. It was the third successful onw overseen by “Witch Erin,” and this year, over 100 children attended.

According to Parks and Recreation Director Lisa Thompson, over 4,000 eggs were filled and placed in the “raven’s nest,” a field uphill from the center, just behind the building. Hidden among the orange and black eggs, which contained candy, small party favors, toys and other Halloween goodies, were a dozen gold eggs. The lucky finders of those eggs exchanged their finds for large bags of Halloween candy upon return to the center.

Friendly Witch Erin (Beam) and her consort and husband David Beam led the children on the hunt. The event was billed as “rain or moonshine,” but everyone at the center was relieved that the rain the day before had let up. “It can get very slippery on that hill,” Thompson said.

The hunt began at 6:30 p.m. By 7 p.m., it was all over. “We spent weeks stuffing those eggs,” she said. “In 30 minutes it was all done. But it’s a wonderful event and brings so many kids out.”
