letter to the editor

Reemphasized

Mon, 03/26/2018 - 5:45pm

    Dear Editor:

I will begin my letter by quoting outgoing selectman Abbott's letter to your paper on March 22, 2018 which references the importance of experience in the selectman's job:

"...It is not a job you just step into. Most citizens don’t realize how much time the job takes, or how complicated it can be. Alna must live with all the same complicated laws, rules, tax, budget, and spending details that the City of Portland does; the only thing different is the scale."

I can only hope Mr Abbott will reemphasize his words to Alna's present selectmen, and to the citizens of Alna, when they determine who to choose as a candidate for the vacant selectman seat.

It is imperative that Alna be represented, in this time of turmoil and angst, by a highly experienced individual, who perhaps has held this job before (or some other prominent leadership role in Maine government) and who understands the laws, rules, tax regulations, budgeting and spending details confronting our town while also representing all members of the town fairly and without bias.

    Ona Brazwell
