Richard L. Albaum died on May 8, 2017 in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Richard was born in Newark, New Jersey to Samuel and Rose Albaum on June 27, 1945. He graduated high school at Middletown Township High School in 1963. He went on to earn a degree from the Culinary Institute of America, following in his father’s footsteps and his love of all things food-related.

In 1965, Richard moved to Miami, Florida and began his career by opening a coffee shop on South Beach before becoming a food service director at the Hollywood Pavilion. While working at Hollywood Pavilion in 1976, Richard met his future wife, and he and Jill were married on February 20, 1977. From then on, Richard enjoyed being a summer resident of Bayville, visiting family and friends. In fact, Richard and Jill enjoyed spending time in Bayville so much, they built a home there, and Richard enjoyed countless memories there for over 40 years.

Continuing his career, Richard joined HBA Management as a kitchen manager until his first “retirement” in 1993. During his “retirement,” he moved to Chesire, Connecticut where he opened Way To Go Deli. In 1995, not enjoying the retirement life, Richard moved back to Florida and rejoined HBA Management as a special project director until his official retirement in 2015. This time he got retirement right, taking the time to enjoy the people, places, and activities he loved the most.

He enjoyed bowling, golf, boating, and travel, especially exploring new places like Alaska, Canada, and the Panama Canal.

Richard is survived by his wife, Jill Albaum of Bayville; his children, Robyn Albaum of Plantation, John Albaum and his wife Lauren of Boothbay, and Brian Albaum of Plantation; his sisters, Arline Hall and her husband Albert of Palm City, and Terry Geiser of Lake Worth; his sisters-in-law Nancy Ciesluk of Millis, Patricia Vallely of Coral Springs, and Constance Nelson and her husband Kevin of Chesire; his nieces, Samantha (Hall) Gross and her husband Pete of Hiawassee, Jennifer (Geiser) Chiampou and her husband Mark of Lake Worth, Ashley Hall of Palm City, Kristin Tarpley of Tampa, Megan Nelson and her husband Derek of Brooklyn; his nephew Ross Vallely and his wife Sarah of Delray Beach, along with numerous cousins, great nieces, and other family members. He was predeceased by his parents, Samuel and Rose Albaum.
