Robert W. Cunningham

Robert W. “Bob” Cunningham, 76, of Boothbay died March 7, 2014 at Maine Medical Center, Portland, with his loving family by his side.

Bob was born in East Boothbay on May 14, 1937 to his parents, Paul A. and Eva C. Giles Cunningham. He grew up in Boothbay and graduated with the Boothbay Region High School Class of 1956. Following high school, Bob joined the United States Army and attained the rank of sergeant. He served honorably, as a Vietnam era veteran and was also stationed in Germany. Bob was most proud that he was a member of the 7th Calvary and is a lifetime member of the same.

Bob was a self talented, self employed carpenter and was the caretaker of many cabins in Sprucewold. He also owned and operated Cunningham Farms, a vegetable market that he and his family ran for 30 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his family. He also enjoyed collecting antiques and restoring old furniture.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Doris White Cunningham of Boothbay; his son, Charles and his wife Nancy Cunningham of Boothbay; daughter, Vicki and her husband Harold Runyon of Lisbon; a grandson, Nick Runyon of Lewiston, a granddaughter, Jenny Runyon of Lisbon; an aunt, Bernice Spinney of Boothbay; his cousin, Neil “Bunky” Cunningham and his family of South Carolina; nephews, Philip and Owen Cunningham and their families of Nobleboro.

Bob was predeceased in death by his parents and a brother, Fernald Cunningham.

A time of visitation will be at Simmons, Harrington Hall Funeral Home on Friday, March 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. A Celebration of Life Service for Bob will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 15 in the chapel of Simmons, Harrington and Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay. There will be a reception following the service at Boothbay Fire House on Route 27.
