Roscoe E. Rand Jr.

Roscoe Elliot "Sonny" Rand Jr., 83, died at County Terrace Nursing Home, Komoka, Ontario, Canada on Nov. 14, 2014, after a courageous battle with dementia.

Roscoe was born Dec. 22, 1930. He graduated from Boothbay Harbor High School and served as a Marine in the U.S. military.

Roscoe was a builder in the Boothbay region and could be found many days at the Rand Boathouse on Cozy Harbor puttering or working on the local turnabouts and skiffs. He enjoyed hosting the annual family lobster bake there as well.

Roscoe also loved traveling and soon called Canada his home. He continued to make it back to Cozy Harbor during the summer months with his wife Valerie, and his beloved cocker spaniels. Friends and family will greatly miss him.

Roscoe is predeceased by his first wife Dorothy, his son Thomas and his sister Kathleen Copeland.

He is survived by his wife, Valerie Rand of London, Ontario; his sisters, Barbara Tibbetts of Southport and Rebecca Poulin of Auburndale, Florida; his dear children, daughter Terri Marto (Rich) of Port St. Lucie Florida, son Timothy Rand of Boothbay Harbor and daughter Tamara Pitchford (Steve) of Wallingford, Connecticut. Roscoe is also survived by his stepsons, James Lane (Laurie) and Adam Lane (Cindy) of Ontario. He will be sadly missed by his eight grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Roscoe’s wishes, cremation has already taken place and a memorial service will be held in the spring in Maine. Cremation arrangements entrusted to London Cremation Services. The family would like to thank the staff at Country Terrace Nursing Home for their care and compassion during Roscoe’s prolonged stay.
