Sandra Leinonen Dunn show at Savory Maine

Tue, 11/07/2017 - 8:30am

Damariscotta's Savory Maine Dining & Provisions is pleased to exhibit the paintings of Chelsea artist Sandra Leinonen Dunn through November and December.

Dunn is best known for her realistic still life, lyrical florals, and Maine landscape in which she seeks to capture a fleeting moment of joyful beauty.  A native Mainer, she finds the state’s beauty a continual source of inspiration, from the hay fields to the harbors and islands.  She uses color intuitively, and her loose brushstrokes give her paintings a joyful vitality. She has a studio in Chelsea, Maine where she lives with her husband, photographer Steven. R. Dunn.

“I paint because it is my way of being on the world. It is my meditation on life and my way of finding peace and creating beauty,” said Dunn. “I paint in a realistic, though somewhat impressionistic, style work in oils and acrylics. My work in photography has inspired me as an artist, and has allowed me to observe in great detail the wonderful design and beauty of nature.”

In addition to being an artist, Dunn is a photographer, teacher, and a published children’s book illustrator. She is represented by several prominent Maine galleries, including Roux & Cyr International Fine Art Gallery in Portland; Kelpie Gallery in South Thomaston; Art Space Gallery in Rockland;  and the Lupine Gallery on Mohegan Island. She is also represented by the esteemed CortileGallery in Provincetown, Massachusetts.  Her works are part of private collections throughout the United States and abroad.
