Sandra A. Mullen

Sandra Arlene Mullen, 74, of Boothbay died peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 24 surrounded by the love of her family.

She was born May 8, 1940 in Waterville to Kenneth and Elnora (Thomas) Shaw.

Sandra grew up in Oakland, Maine, and was a graduate of Williams High School. She was an excellent seamstress and worked for Hathaway Shirt Factory.

She married her high school sweetheart, and enjoyed being a wife, mother and homemaker. She loved spending time in the garden and had a wonderful “green thumb.”

She extended the love of her garden into the kitchen spending hours canning, preserving and baking. She enjoyed music and singing. Sandra’s favorite color was blue and she especially loved Cobalt Blue glass.

She will be remembered for her missionary work, traveling with the gospel group the Singing Ambassadors. Sandra was also involved with the Prison Ministry, working alongside her husband, Herb. Sandra enjoyed her connection with the Boothbay Region Community Fellowship.

Sandra will be remembered for many things, especially her quiet, gentle spirit. Her happiness and joy centered on her family and friends.

She was predeceased by a brother, Michael Shaw, and parents, Kenneth and Elnora Shaw.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Herbert James Mullen; daughters, Dawn, and her husband Henry Simmons, of Boothbay, Joanne Powell of Skowhegan, Valerie and her husband William Higgins of New Gloucester, and Maxine her and husband Richard Roy of Boothbay; brother, Edward Shaw and his wife Betty of East Boothbay; sisters, Roberta Shaw, of Fairfield, Lois Nichols and Edward Myrbeck of Litchfield, Kathy and her husband John Stevens of Albion, and Wendy and her husband Timothy Jandebaur; and special brother, William Shaw, of Northwood, New Hampshire; and seven grandchildren, Jimmy, Bryan, Misty, Rachael, Andrew, Walter and Stephen. She also is survived by eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express gratitude to Miles Home Health and Hospice for the gentle care and support during this difficult time, and also their thanks to the Boothbay Ambulance Service and community volunteers.

A service of celebration and remembrance will be held on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 1 p.m. at Hall’s of Boothbay, 975 Wiscasset Road, Boothbay, with Pastor Al Roberts officiating.
