Selectman’s candidates file papers

Three candidates will be on the Wiscasset ballot for a selectman’s seat Nov. 3. Nominations closed Sept. 21.

Town Clerk Linda Perry said Judith Colby, Roland Abbott and David Flynn were the only residents who filed papers by Monday’s deadline; their voter signatures have been verified, so the three will appear on the ballot, Perry said.

Reached Tuesday, Flynn, who works at Molnlycke’s Wiscasset plant, said he has not served in local politics previously and thought this might be an opportune time to run.

Abbott recently resigned his longtime position as director of Wiscasset Ambulance Service; Colby served four years as a selectman prior to losing a 2014 reelection bid.

The board of selectmen is currently working with four members, following Bill Barnes’ resignation that created the opening.
