After the May 16 town meeting, the Edgecomb selectmen found a $7,266 error in the warrant. Article 10 asked voters to raise and appropriate $58,680 for general government and $61,406 for town officials’ salaries. The two requests totaled $120,086. Voters unanimously approved the article.

However, below the article, the budget committee recommended $60,135 for general government and $67,217 for salaries. The budget committee’s recommendation totaled $127,352. The selectmen discussed options for covering the shortfall during the May 18 board meeting.

“There was a difference between what was presented and what was recommended,” Sarmanian said.

The selectmen will cover the shortage by carrying forward about $1,400 in the general government account. The board will use $5,811 in future building permit and plumbing fees to cover salaries.

This was the first selectmen’s meeting since the town meeting. Newly elected Selectman Mike Smith joined Sarmanian and Jessica Chubbuck. Sarmanian was reelected board chairman for another term.

The selectmen also discussed implementing two town warrant articles approved by voters. The selectmen will work with the Schmid Land Preserve trustees in hiring a surveyor. Voters approved $1,600 to survey a parcel on the preserve known as the Lallis property. The selectman want to sell the property.

The board asked Smith to develop a recommendation for selling the 2002 John Deere tractor used by the Edgecomb Eddy School. Voters approved the sale and want the proceeds used to pay for the the new tractor purchased last fall.

The tractor has an appraised $7,800 value.

The town’s website may also being getting an overhaul. The planning board has suggested the creation of a website committee. Planning board chairman Jack French told the selectmen that a more “formalized website” is necessary.

The planning board has nominated member David Nutt and resident Jarryl Larson to serve on the committee. The selectmen will meet with the two during their next board meeting.

“They will be officially appointed in two weeks,” Sarmanian said. “And we’ll hear what plans they have for a more formalized website at that time.”

The selectmen will meet next at 6 p.m. on Monday, June 1 in the municipal building.
