Shirley Esther Miete died suddenly at Maine Medical Center on April 20, 2016. She was 81.

She was born in Windsor, Maine on May 31, 1934 to Edmond and Edith (Blodgett) Joslyn and spent the past 50 years living in Wiscasset.

After graduating from Erskine Academy in 1952, she worked in the office at Hazard Shoe Company in Augusta and married Paul Miete in 1953. They were married 63 years. She also worked as a waitress, was a home demonstrator, and enjoyed picking apples in the fall.

Shirley loved dancing, bowling, playing games and made every event a good time for everyone. She was able to enjoy many trips to Florida with her family and travel to other locations.

Her greatest joys were spending lots of quality time with her large family and many friends. After attending many churches throughout her life, she found great fulfillment when she dedicated her life as one of the Jehovah’s Witnesses and spent time with great zeal meeting new people wherever she went — sharing her hope for the future and teaching the practical value of the Bible for everyday living.

She was predeceased by her parents, five brothers, two sisters and one great-grandchild.

She is survived by her husband, Paul Miete Jr. of Wiscasset; daughter, Pam and her husband Steve Jones of Bath; son, David Miete and his wife Bonnie of Wiscasset; daughter, Vicky and her husband David Hunter of Brunswick; daughter, Paula and her husband Jerry Scarborough of Boothbay; son, Barry Miete and his wife Lynnette of Alna; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She will be fondly missed by all.

A service will be held Saturday, May 21 at 2 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 6 Station Road, Newcastle.
