Successful diaper drive

Mon, 07/17/2017 - 7:30am

Dear Editor:

The results are in! Our community has exceeded last year's diaper drive by just enough! Last year our local diaper bank distributed roughly 8,200 diapers to help families on MaineCare meet their diaper need. While we can’t supply all of the diapers an infant will require (healthy newborns go through 10 to 12 diapers a day, older babies 8 to 10 diapers each day), we hope to provide enough of a supplement to help low income families change their little ones’ diapers as often as needed. Our expectation and hope for this year is that we will distribute 10,000 diapers at our distribution table at the Ecumenical Food Pantry in Newcastle.

The third annual Diaper Drive, which we just completed, raised more diapers and more funds to buy diapers with than ever before. We calculate that this will be just enough to get us to the 10,000 diaper mark!

We are grateful for the help of all our volunteers who staff the table and help with the collections, and for each and every donation. Together, we will help keep a lot of little bottoms healthy and happy.

Thank you!
