Successful river race

Tue, 07/25/2017 - 12:30pm

    Dear Editor:

The Wiscasset Area Chamber of Commerce’s Waterfront Committee would like to thank all those who helped to make the 28th Sheepscot River Race on the 4th of July such a successful and fun event. This is only the second year the Chamber has jumped in to make this long-standing race more visible to the community and we doubled the number of racing participants.

The race started in Newcastle at the (former) Sherman Lake Rest Area and proceeded 6.2 miles down the scenic Sheepscot River to Wiscasset Harbor and the Recreational Pier.  More than 60 paddle-driven vessels completed the race!

We congratulate race organizer Scott Shea of Seaspray Kayaking (and native son) for his care and dedication. Many thanks to the Marshall Nelson Trio sponsors: Forgotten Recipes, Grover Auto & Tire, Monique McRae, Red's Eats, Sarah's Cafe, and Sprague's Lobster. More thanks to the Wiscasset Community Center, the Wiscasset Fire Dept., Dave Gagnon, the Wiscasset Conservation Commission, Sheila Brennan Nee of the Maine Sports Commission, Jenna Howard of Maine's Midcoast & Islands, and Chamber volunteers.

If you love boats, the waterfront, and having fun, join us in 2018. Contact the Chamber at info@wiscassetchamber.com

    Wiscasset Chamber Waterfront Committee members,

Frank Hansen (chair), Jim Crowley, Lucia Droby,
