Tear it up with The Crown Vics

The thousands of holiday lights have been packed up and stowed away for another year, but on Saturday, Jan. 28, the historic Opera House in Boothbay Harbor will pulse back to life for the 2017 season with the rockin' sound of The Crown Vics.

While the night will be a concert for some audience members, for others it will be a winter's evening to get out on the dance floor and tear it up. The Crown Vics say they "are Maine's premier rockabilly dance band," and Midcoast residents are invited to come and check out their claim. The band has been described as “hard-twang,” “slacker swing” and "honky punk," and their performances provide a high-octane mix of vintage rock, country and  blues that fires up even the most reluctant dancers.

The Crown Vics cut their teeth in venues from Hoboken to Halifax, where they quickly learned the value of involving their fans.  Their shows explode into the audience and the fans have been known to snatch a tambourine or maraca and join the high energy troupe on stage.  On the flip side, The Vics know how to mellow the house with sweet crooning and harmonies. Tapping into the tradition established by Carl Perkins, Wanda Jackson, and The Rolling Stones, The Vics combine attitude and style, that makes them a fun and vibrant act. Their live show is a full-tilt, non-stop dance riot that puts a smile on the face of revelers of all ages.  It is also a bit of a musical history lesson for those who pay attention.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with music beginning at 7 for this all ages night of midwinter fun. Advance tickets are $10, or $25 for a family of four (two adults and two children under age 17). Tickets are $15 per person, all ages, if purchased on the day of the performance. T

The Opera House box office at 86 Townsend Avenue is open Tuesday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., or by calling 633-5159. Tickets and information are also available online at boothbayoperahouse.com. For additional information on the band, visit www.thecrownvics.me.
