Thelma S. Sherman

Thelma S. Sherman, 97, of Boothbay Harbor died peacefully surrounded by love on December 1, 2015.

She was born on May 18, 1918 in Boothbay Harbor, the daughter of Melville and Carrie Huey Sproul.

Thelma graduated from Boothbay Harbor High School in the Class of 1937. After graduation, she became a bookkeeper for C.C. Reny Plumbing & Heating and continued working as a bookkeeper for her husband, Bert in his plumbing, heating and gas business for a number of years.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and a member of the Home Extension and Hospital Auxiliary for many years. Thelma was a very proud 50-year member of the Mt. Pisgah Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, which she greatly enjoyed.

Thelma enjoyed her family life, friends, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, sewing and reading. She loved her home town of Boothbay Harbor, where she had lived her entire life.

Thelma is survived by her son, William Sherman and his wife, Regina, of Somersworth, New Hampshire; four grandchildren, Stephen Clifford, Leisa Stegner, William Parmenter and Laura Sherman. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren. Thelma was predeceased by her husband Bert, her daughter, Sally Parmenter, her brother, Linwood Sproul, her sister, Eleanor Bailey, and her sister, Mabel Tamanini.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 8 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Hall’s of Boothbay, 975 Wiscasset Road, Boothbay, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at the Boothbay Harbor First United Methodist Church, 81 Townsend Avenue. A graveside will follow the service at Ocean View Cemetery in Boothbay.
