Third annual Bands for Books fundraiser coming soon

Fri, 08/05/2016 - 8:15am

For the third year, the public is invited to a fun-filled evening to raise money for the Wiscasset Public Library. The event, organized by Friends of the Library, will take place Sunday, Sept. 4 from 5-7 p.m. It will again be held in the large barn and surrounding gardens at Marianmade Farm, a wedding destination site and lavender farm in Wiscasset that borders the Sheepscot River.

This year the Downeast Brass Quintet, five accomplished Maine music educators and musicians, will perform a wide range of styles from classical to Dixieland, and they will take requests.

In addition to the music, the event includes a cash bar provided by The Little Village Bistro and heavy hors d'oeuvres donated by them.

A variety of items will be raffled off. They include a case of wine, a sculpture, a painting of your home, a large gift basket, a custom lampshade, flower arrangements to be delivered to your door, an evening cruise, a plane ride over Midcoast Maine, and a delicious homemade cake. Raffle tickets are $5 for one or $20 for five tickets, and will only be available at the event.

Sponsors of this year's event are The First National Bank of Wiscasset, Leavitt and Parris of Portland, and Marianmade Farm, LLC of Wiscasset.

Prior to the event, tickets, at $25 per person, can be purchased at the Wiscasset Public Library 21 High Street in Wiscasset or from committee members -- Wendy Ross, Judy Flanagan, Sally Gemmill, Michelle Peele, Jenn Spaur and Linda Winterberg. Tickets will also be available at the entrance to the event itself -- located at 155 Federal Street in Wiscasset. Free parking is available in a large field at the event site. All the monies collected will be used to benefit the Wiscasset Public Library.

Funds raised previously have been used to redo the library's Used Book Room, providing new shelving, new carpeting and new paint. Monies from this year's event will be used to "Light up the Library" -- funds will be used to replace old fluorescent lighting in the Children's Room and the Non-Fiction area of the library.

So mark your calendars, get ready to have some fun, and take home some wonderful raffle items while helping the Wiscasset Public library.
