Thomas E. Mitchell of Wiscasset, Nashua, N.H. and Homosassa, Fla., died unexpectedly at the VA hospital in Gainesville, Fla. on Sept. 25, 2015.

He was born to Almon Jr. and Frances (Tat) Mitchell on June 2, 1946 in Boothbay.

Thomas is survived by his sons, Ryan Thomas Mitchell and Tam S. Mitchell; a grandson, Liam Thomas Mitchell; and his brothers, David and Dick Atkinson.

He was predeceased by his parents, Almon Jr. and Frances Mitchell; his stepfather, Gustav (Gus) Pearson; a son, Eddie Mitchell; and his brother, Paul Atkinson.

Within a month of graduating high school, he joined the Army National Guard of Maine where after a year he was recruited by the Air Force. During his fourth year of service, he was honorably discharged as a SGT E-4 and offered employment with the Federal Aviation Administration. For more than a decade he worked as a highly skilled and dedicated air traffic controller.

Some years later, Thomas discovered a niche in the circuit board industry. Seizing the opportunity, he founded and ran a lucrative business for many years while investing in real estate knowing that technology would soon consume the need for his business.

Having accomplished so much in his life, including climbing Mt. Fuji in Japan while in the Air Force, none made him prouder than the birth of boys and being a father.

His final and most coveted title came the day his grandson was born and he became " Pop Pop."

Thomas truly lived life and if you were part of his you knew it. Love you "Pop."

He will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Cemetery in Wiscasset and a memorial plaque will be placed at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.
