Thomas F. Fogarty Sr., 72, died peacefully with loving family by his side on Jan. 12, 2016, at the Maine Veterans Hospital.

He was born April 24, 1943 to Thomas F. Fogarty and Mary Mahoney Fogarty in Hartford, Connecticut. Tom went to local schools in Hartford, graduating from the Hartford Public High School. He joined the Navy after high school, serving his country during the Vietnam War.

After leaving the service, Tom met and married the love of his life, Elaine Groder, and they began a family together. Tom worked for Rowan Drilling Company as an aircraft mechanic for 35 years. This journey began in Texas working on ERA helicopters, a subsidiary of Rowan Corp. He and his family then moved to Alaska for 11 years and then the family moved to Boothbay. Tom’s work for Rowan Corp. took him to Louisiana and he commuted for 23 years back and forth to Maine. Tom and Elaine retired to Boothbay where they have lived for the past 34 years.

Tom was an Eagle Scout and served as scoutmaster for troops in Boothbay and Wiscasset. He volunteered at Our Lady Queen of Peace, the Boothbay Region Community group when it first began, and was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus.

Tom is survived by his wife, Elaine, of 40 years; his daughters, Catherine Lewis and her husband Glenn of Manchester, and Elizabeth Barter and her husband Brent of Edgecomb; and his son, Thomas Fogarty Jr. and his wife Alexandra of Denver, Colorado. He is also survived by his sister, Joann Cremins and her husband Allen of Saco; grandchildren, Michelle Shaw and her husband Brian of Readfield, Nicholas Lewis of Manchester, Stephen Barter, Cole Barter and Allyson Barter, all of Edgecomb; and a great-grandson, Sawyer Shaw of Readfield.

A Mass will be held on Monday, Jan. 18 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Peace, 82 Atlantic Avenue, Boothbay Harbor. Father Frederick Morse will officiate. A reception will follow at the church. All are welcome. A graveside service at the Maine Veterans Cemetery will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 20 at noon.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the “Knights of Columbus Floor Fund,” Kevin Alley, Treasurer, P. O. Box 370, Boothbay Harbor, Maine 04538.
