Boothbay region towns were some of the hardest hit among Lincoln County towns that lost power in a strong storm August 13 and early August 14. Central Maine Power’s website at www.cmpco.com was reporting Boothbay had 1,175 customers in the dark as of 1:28 a.m. Thursday, among the 3,662 without power countywide.

Shortly before 9 a.m. the county’s outages stood at 4,946. At the time, Southport, with 1,011 customers out, and Damariscotta, with 1,121 out, had the biggest outages.

Constance Schumann of 159 Federal Street in Wiscasset was feeling very fortunate Thursday morning, as a downed tree a neighbor figured to be at least a century old, blocked her driveway. The apparent ash tree narrowly missed a utility pole and lines, and Schumann’s mailbox. She and her neighbor across the  street, Ted Weber, said they both heard it fall around 8 p.m. Wednesday.

“It was a big whoosh,” Weber said. Schumann also heard a car’s tires screech.

“God has been very good to us,” she said as Weber prepared to take a chainsaw to the tree.

Dresden, Westport Island, Newcastle, Whitefield, Waldoboro, Nobleboro, Jefferson and Bremen all had minor outages overnight.

Area fire departments responded to numerous reports of trees down on roads overnight.

As of 7 a.m., close to 2 inches of rain had fallen in Lincoln County, much less than some parts of western Maine received, said meteorologist Chris Legro at the National Weather Service’s Gray office. From the Portland to Augusta areas, some spots received as much as 4 to 6 inches and even 7 to 8 inches, he said.

Gusty winds along the coast may have contributed to Lincoln County’s power outages, Legro said.
