Authorities on Oct. 1 learned of a Sept. 27 accident that put a Whitefield man’s pickup truck in the woods off Wiscasset’s Route 1 near Norm’s Used Cars, according to a Wiscasset Police Department press release.

At about 2:05 p.m. Thursday, Wiscasset Police Chief Troy Cline received information from Administrative Assistant Amy Twitchell of a late-report motor vehicle crash, the release states.

The vehicle’s owner was identified as Bryan Tillson, 32, of Whitefield.

“He called the police department to locate his truck. He thought the truck had been towed due to the crash; however, the crash was never reported to police,” the release continues. “Tillson told Chief Cline that he has a broken neck as a result of the crash. He was transported by Delta Ambulance on Sept. 28 from his home in Whitefield to Maine General Hospital in Augusta for treatment.

“Tillson located his vehicle on its side approximately 200 feet into the woods across the street from Norm’s. He then notified Wiscasset Police and continues to cooperate with the investigation.

“At this point ... it has been determined that a crash took place (Sept. 27) between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. The vehicle was identified as a 1990 red and black GMC 2500 pick-up registered to Tillson. Tillson advises that he was a passenger in the front seat of his truck the night of the crash.

“Wiscasset police and fire units responded to assist with traffic while the vehicle was removed from the woods by Lincoln County Towing. The vehicle will remain impounded pending the ongoing criminal investigation,” the release concludes.
