Two inmates at the Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset have been charged with filing a false sexual assault complaint against a female corrections officer.

On March 21, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Detective Terry Michaud received a complaint from jail staff that an inmate had reported being sexually assaulted by a corrections officer.

Brandon Knowles, 25, from the Bangor area, said that while in a secluded area of the jail, a female corrections officer touched his genitals without his permission.

A second inmate, Cory Breen, 26, from the Belfast area, backed up Knowles’ report by stating he was in the same area when the alleged assault took place.

After investigation, reviewing security footage and numerous interviews, Michaud discovered that the complaint had been fabricated by the two inmates, and the alleged assault had never taken place.

Knowles has been charged with false public alarm/report and Breen has been charged with hindering an investigation.
