Upcoming adult ed classes

On Tuesday, May 2 at Boothbay Region Adult Ed Chip Griffin, co-author of “Coming of Age on Damariscove Island,” will be giving a talk about the pirates, ghosts, and remarkable History of Damariscove, one of Maine’s earliest settlement sites, is owned and managed by the Boothbay Region Land Trust. The Abenakis and, later, European fishermen settled and fished there from 1622 to the late 20th century.

Join Chip for a lively, informative talk about the history and changes of this island. The time is 6-8 p.m. and the registration fee is $10.

A CPR/AED and First Aid course is being offered on May 9 and 11 from 6 to 9 p.m. This course is taught by a certified instructor and includes: how to perform CPR (chest compressions and rescue breaths), recognize signs of and how to care for breathing emergencies or choking. What defibrillation is and how it works, identify precautions to take when using an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) for all age groups. The first aid component covers all aspects of emergency care. A two-year certificate awarded upon successful completion. The fee is $75.

The Basics is an informative talk and discussion for community members and anyone who would like to learn more about Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. This program provides the basic information everyone needs to know about memory loss issues and what they mean for all of us. Learn symptoms and effects of Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia. The date is Tuesday, May 9, 6-7:30 p.m. and fee is $10
