No one was hurt when a sport utility vehicle a Wiscasset woman was driving Saturday morning, Feb. 21, struck the Clipper Mart sign on Route 1, Wiscasset police said.

Mackenzie Riley, 27, was driving eastbound on Bradford Road when she failed to stop at the stop sign at Bradford and Bath roads and drove across Bath Road, according to Wiscasset Police Chief Troy Cline’s press release on Monday, Feb. 23.

The stop sign was clearly posted, the release states.

Riley allegedly told Wiscasset Police Officer Harrison Wiegman that she had been distracted when she went past the stop sign and into the snow bank and Clipper Mart sign, the release states.

“(Riley) was cited for failure to maintain control of vehicle,” Cline states in an email response to the Wiscasset Newspaper.

Police shut down northbound Route 1 for Blagden’s Garage to remove the 2011 Ford Escape from the snow bank, according to a police log released Monday.

The log states that the store’s manager reported at 7:42 a.m. that the vehicle crossed the road and hit the sign.
