Virginia “Ginny” Macmillan Hankinson, 92, died peacefully at her home in Boothbay Harbor, the morning of March 11, 2014.

She was born in Framingham, Mass., on November 8, 1920 to Walter and Grace L. (Spinney) Robbins. She graduated from Hopkinton High School and attended Framingham Normal School.

She married Robert Norcross Macmillan on August 26, 1939. Her work life included Telechron, Dennison and many years as a waitress at Ken’s Steak House, where she met and worked with many people who became lifelong friends. After summering in the area for many years, Virginia moved to Boothbay Harbor in 1972, where she kept herself busy creating stained glass art for various gift shops in Maine.

She married David K. Hankinson of Ocean Point on September 26, 1992. She took great pride in her work as a trustee of the Boothbay Region YMCA and her efforts with the Boothbay Region Land Trust.

All who knew “Ginny” were well aware of her “I did it my way” attitude on life.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husbands, and her sisters, Eleanor Welch and Marjorie Hall.

She is survived by her sons, Robert Macmillan and wife Christine of East Boothbay, and Richard Macmillan and wife Jennifer of Hopkinton, Mass.; her daughter, Kim Rzasa and husband John of Dresden; her brothers, Walter “Brud” Robbins and Claire of Hopkinton, and Raymond “Ray” Robbins and Lenita of Hanover, N.H.; grandsons, Christopher Macmillan and wife Cindy of Cambridge, Mass., Jason Brackett and wife Angela of Dresden, and Andrew Macmillan; other grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren and step-children.

Her family would especially like to thank the caregivers for the wonderful care they gave Ginny. They were some of the best and most caring girls around.
