Voting to amend school choice policy

Mon, 03/19/2018 - 5:00pm

Dear Editor:

All the different numbers being tossed around about the school choice referendum in Alna had me confused, but after I received my town report this weekend and looked at my own recent tax bill, it all made sense.

The presentation at the public hearing was on target and showed that the selectmen and Mr. Hilton were correct.

On page 11 of the town report, it shows that two-thirds (63 percent) of our total budget is the cost of education and has increased since the previous year.

We are getting in over our heads tax wise with our liberal school choice policy. The amendment to that plan treats present residents and their children fairly and stops the future abuse of our generosity.

I am supporting the present town leadership, voting for them, and voting yes to amend our school choice policy.
